Extensions and refurbishments for the RONDO Kewdale warehouse in partnership with Bollig Design Group. Upgrades included a new undercover driveway to the rear of the building, new 11m tall concrete signage panel and new internal mezzanine floor, offices and meeting rooms. Efforts were taken to maintain the aesthetic of the existing structure as well as recycle steelwork where appropriate. Extensive concrete paving was included around the perimeter of the building to facilitate traffic flow to and from the new undercover driveway.
Composite steel beams and suspended concrete slab were used for the first-floor office and mezzanine areas. 530mm and 610mm deep universal beams were used to allow open spans to architectural requirements and to facilitate the reuse of the existing steelwork grid. Composite columns comprising of stitch welded parallel flange channels were utilised to reinforce inadequate existing columns. The extensions were also taken as an opportunity to review the existing purlins and girts and update them to conform with current Australian standards.
